2015 Vancouver’s renewable city strategy approved
City council approves a “Renewable City Strategy” whose goal is for a complete shift to 100 per cent renewable energy by 2050.
Vancouver is the first major city in North America to approve a 100 per cent shift to renewable energy for residential and commercial buildings. The goal is also to end the use of fossil fuels in cars. The city plans to make the change by adopting zero-emission standards for new city buildings, changing vehicles in the city’s fleet by leaning away from natural gas to renewable energy, streamlining the solar-panel installation process, promote a sharing economy and placing carbon-pollution pricing at the municipal-operations level.
