2015 A new St. Paul’s hospital to be built on False Creek Flats

Description
The provincial government and Providence Health Care announce that St. Paul’s Hospital will move from Burrard Street downtown to a new building on a site near Main and Terminal on the False Creek Flats.

Significance
The new building will provide round the clock integrated services, mental health and addiction services, residential care for the frail and elderly and more. But residents of the West End expressed concern that they will be left without health-care services.

Background
The 1912 St. Paul’s building on Burrard has faced challenges based on the age, condition and layout. Options included
redevelopment the current site or new development with a new tower and roughly $500 million in renovations.
